The next day it wouldnt crank. He changed things on the car that had went bad from sitting. The car is turning but seems it wont get a spark to crank. I mwondering if it can be the fuses. My mechanic said he was going to clean the fuses and check to see if they may be bad. I was wondering could it be the fuel pump or fule filter. Any suggestions? car insurance. BMW . My Volvo 940 Won't StartGiven the age of a 940 Volvo (which was last made in 1998), there are a number of things that may cause it to not turn on. The most likely culprit is a dead battery, but if regular maintenance has not been kept up there can also be mechanical problems. If the problem is electrical, then a simple battery swap or jump-start may fix your problems. If the problem is mechanical, you will need a professional mechanic, especially one skilled in repairing an old European import model. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Car battery Jumper cables Flathead screwdriverHow to Diagnose a Nonstarting Volvo 940 Step by Step : 1 Sit in your car and try to turn the car on. Listen for whether the engine turns over; this will sound like chugging. If it is not chugging, then look at the dashboard lights. If the lights are not on or are only flickering, then your battery is dead or dying. 2 Take the keys out of the ignition and open your hood, making sure to prop the hood up with the prop stick on the side of the engine bay. Inspect the battery for foam. If there is foam, then the battery is leaking acid. You need to call a tow truck. A professional mechanic is needed to deal with the battery because of the danger of acid burns. If there is no foam, then strike the battery post clamps with your shoe as the clamps may just need to be reconnected. Try turning the car on. If that has not fixed the problem, then you need to either replace the battery or jump-start the car. 3 Jump-starting a 940 Volvo can be easy but can take up to an hour. Make sure the car is off first, then have a friend park his car next to yours so that his car's front end is next to your car's front end without the two vehicles touching. Pop open both hoods; connect one end of the red jumper cable to the positive terminal on the 940 and the other end to the positive terminal on the other car. Connect one end of the black cable to the negative terminal on the other car and the other end to a bare metal part of the 940 Volvo. Start the good car and let it idle for five minutes, then start the 940. Let the Volvo then run for half an hour to fully recharge the battery, or you can quickly burn out the alternator by driving and charging. If, however, this does not work, then your battery may be beyond revival and needs to be replaced. 4 Replacing the battery in a 940 Volvo is relatively easy. Make sure the engine is turned off, then take the battery post clamps off by unscrewing the ring clamps with a flathead screwdriver. Remove the retaining clamps with the flathead screwdriver. Pull the battery out by its inbuilt handle and slide the new battery in. Screw down the retaining clamp and reattach the battery post clamps, being careful not to overtighten the screws. Try to turn the car on again. If the car lights come on but the engine does not come on, the engine may be flooded. 5 Clearing a flooded engine is the easiest part of fixing a nonstarting car as the car has a clear flood mode that will automatically clear a flooded engine. A flooded engine is when there is fuel on the spark plugs that is preventing them from sparking. To fix this you will need to depress the accelerator all the way to the floor before repeatedly turning the ignition to the "On" position. This triggers the clear flood mode, which makes the engine pump air instead of fuel, thus drying the spark plugs. Do this for five minutes, then take your foot off the pedal and turn the car off, taking the key out of the ignition. After a minute turn the car on like normal and the car should start. If not, there may be mechanical problems requiring a professional mechanic with diagnostic equipment.
BMW . How to Reset a Rabbit Service Light on a 2008 VWThe service light in your 2008 VW Rabbit serves to alert you when your car is in need of maintenance. A licensed mechanic or dealer will reset this light after they have finished performing the maintenance that triggered the light. However, if you choose to do the maintenance yourself, you need to know how to reset the service light in order to turn it off after you have performed the necessary maintenance. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Enter the VW Rabbit with the ignition key. 2 Close the door. 3 Hold down the odometer trip reset button. This button is on the right side of your instrument panel. 4 Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position. 5 Wait for the wrench symbol to illuminate, then release the button. 6 Press the "MIN" button on the left side of the instrument panel. 7 Wait 10 seconds, then remove the key from the ignition and exit the VW. If it still doesn't move, it may be caught on something. Try bending it a little to clear the obstruction. If the accelerator pump arm moves freely when someone steps on the gas pedal, take a look down the carburetor barrel to see whether fuel is squirting in when the accelerator pump arm moves. If there's no fuel action, the carburetor probably needs to be rebuilt (which involves taking it apart, cleaning it, and replacing various parts) or replaced. If you need a new carburetor, you may be just as well off getting a cheaper, rebuilt one. The sections "Installing a New or Rebuilt Carburetor" and "What to Do When All Else Fails," later in this chapter, provide your alternatives. Adjusting your accelerator pump arm Some accelerator pumps have more than one hole where the arm hooks up, to enable you to adjust the arm. Adjusting for a shorter stroke (so that the arm moves a shorter distance) gives you a leaner mixture of fuel and air; a longer stroke gives you a richer one. If your accelerator pump arm is moving O 7C Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System when the gas pedal is stepped on, and fuel is squirting into the venturi when the arm is pushed, but you're still having acceleration problems, try adjusting the arm for a longer stroke. Checking your idle speed BMW . Need complete wiring diagram for a 1989 Club Car electric golf cart?
Yugo GV. * Follow these steps to check the speed at which your engine idles. If it's idling too fast or too slow, the next section has instructions for adjusting the mechanisms that control it: 1. Hook a tach/dwell meter to the distributor. See the section "Checking your distributor with a dwell meter" in Chapter 12 for details. (A plain tachometer will do, but a dwell meter without a tachometer is useless here.) 2. Remove the air cleaner, following the instructions given earlier in this chapter. 3. With the emergency brake on and the car in Park or Neutral, start the car and let it run until the engine is hot and the butterfly valve on the choke is fully open. 4. BMW . What does it mean when i put the breaks on in my car they make a clicking noise and the low trac light comes on at the same time?
* When the engine is hot enough, turn the knob on the tach/dwell meter to "tach" and look on the rpm line of the meter to see at how many rpm your car is idling. 5. Check that rpm reading against the specifications in your owner's manual or a service manual for your vehicle's make, model, and year to see whether the car is idling at the proper rpm. If your car isn't idling at the proper speed, you have to adjust your idle. Adjusting the idle is a simple matter, as explained in the following section. Adjusting idle speed <\V ^ Before you adjust your idle speed, you need to determine whether your vehi "~" cle has an idle speed screw or an idle air bleed screw, and whether it has an idle stop solenoid. If the figures in this section don't help you determine this (Figure 13-11 shows common idle speed screws, and Figure 13-12 shows an idle stop solenoid), either call and ask the service department at your dealership or consult a service manual for your vehicle's make, model, and year. BMW . Is it better to sell the car for 50 dollars to a relative or give the car to them?
* Adjusting idle speed screvfs If your vehicle has an idle speed screw, follow these steps to adjust it: .Chapter 13: Keeping Your Fuel System in Tune 1. Check your owner's manual to see whether the idle speed should be adjusted with the air cleaner off or on the carburetor. Most cars are adjusted with the air cleaner off. If there's a hose that goes from the carburetor to the air cleaner, plug the hose with a clean, lint-free rag after you remove the air cleaner. 2. Adjust the idle. If you have an idle speed screw (see Figure 13-11): Use a screwdriver to turn the screw until the needle on the tach/dwell meter rests on the proper number of rpm. Turning the screw inward (clockwise) increases idle speed; turning it outward (counterclockwise) decreases it. If you have an idle air bleed screw instead of an idle speed screw: Do exactly the same thing to adjust it. However, in this case, you turn the screw clockwise to decrease idle speed, and turn it counterclockwise to increase idle speed. Typical idle speed adjustment screws BMW .
